Who was Rukhsana Sultana? what relation she had with Sanjay Gandhi and how she was associated with Sara Ali Khan?

Rukhsana Sultana

Rukhsana Sultana was born in Jalandhar, Punjab. Her original name was Meenu Bimbet. Mohan Bimbet and Zarina Haque were her Father and Mother respectively. She was a Punjabi Muslim. She had married Shivinder Singh Virk who was in the Indian Army and he was a Sikh belong to Punjab. She had a boutique in Connaught Circus. She was a well-known political activist during the emergency time 1975-1977. She was very popular in the minority community in India at that time [ some sources claim that actually, there was a fear in minority community because of her] and She loves to wear glasses( you might not able to find a single picture of her without glasses). She was known as "chief glamour girl of emergency".

What relationship She had with Mr. Sanjay Gandhi?

On 25th June 1975 India's Prime minister Indira Gandhi had declared Emergency on All India Radio.[Technically emergency imposed by President of India which was recommended by Prime minister]. One of the and main reason to impose an emergency was one court case in which Mrs. Indira had found guilty, in a state of Uttar Pradesh v.s. Raj Narain lawsuit in which court invalidated the election of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and also disqualified from contesting election for six years. [It means she would have not remained as prime minister of India and she could not have fought election for the next six years]. Mrs. Indira Gandhi lost all power and the only way to get it back was emergency. Within 13 days of the judgment, Mrs. Gandhi had declared a state of Emergency on the nation.

During emergency time Sanjay Gandhi was decided to drive a sterilization campaign("Nas Bandhi") to control India's population which was around 62 crores and which was around 45 crores in 1960. So India's population had increased by 34% from 1960 to 1975 in 15 years. That time ruling party[ and especially Sanjay Gandhi] already figured out that whatever problem present in India was because of its large population which even increasing further with a high rate. A large portion of the population was below the poverty line at that time. [Family planning is the most important thing for poor people. If a poor family has more children, then none of them might get a good education and quality of life but if they have one child and by working hard if they manage to educate him/her, they may lift their family's economical level and quality of life too.] Also congress had given a slogan "Garibi Hatavo" in their election campaign and won the election. So this is the best way to reduce the poorness of the country(or poor people ) as if any country has less population definitely gives many benefits and that country can progress faster. Also, citizens get more resources to utilize like water, electricity, health care, and food.

Rukhsana was inspired by Mr. Sanjay Gandhi's leadership and she had a desire to work with him. One day she took his appointment and met him as a jeweler and she asked him, how she could help him. Mr. Sanjay Gandhi had given her a target to convince at a list of 8000 people from her religion who were living in old Delhi near Jama Masjid for his sterilization campaign. [Mr. Gandhi had started his campaign from Delhi and especially from old Delhi where most of the people were poor and belong to minority communities]. She has taken this task as a challenge and she knows if she would do it, she could get the trust of Mr. Gandhi and work closely with him. She started explaining the advantages of family planning to people in the old Delhi house. At that time, she had become so powerful inside the Congress party because of Mr. Sanjay Gandhi, that the leaders of Congress had to seek help to get him to talk to Sanjay. Even though Several Chief Ministers started talking to Mr. Sanjay Gandhi through him. That time four people considered closest to Mr. Sanjay Gandhi who was running the government and involved in all decisions taken by either Sanjay Gandhi or Mrs. Indira Gandhi and one of them was Rukhsana Sultana. She had not only completed her target but according to a report, Rukhsana Sultana convinced 13 thousand people for sterilizations.

Both characters show in film Indu Sarkar

Why did Mr. Sanjay Gandhi need to take the help of Rukhsana Sultana?

In 1975 when Mr. Sanjay Gandhi started that campaign, rumors were spread in minorities that the government wanted to reduce their number and because of that, they had started this campaign. Because of this rumors spread in minority communities, they had not supported the government. (Even majority people also not supported government as this campaign was executed forcefully on the people and though the campaign was for good reason, it was not successful) and Mr. Sanjay Gandhi had needed someone from the minority who could convince them to become part of the campaign. (Today's government also facing the same problem with minorities whether it is corona pandemic or CAA law or NRC. Minority communities still believing in rumors that the government wants to kill them to reduce their numbers and that is why they are taking them to quarantine centers which leads stone-pelting to many places. [This information came out after investigation done in Indore stone-pelting case] Even though the minority community increased in India from 11% to 14% in the last census and maybe increase more when the next census result will come out but still they get brainwashed).

Sanjay Gandhi got help from Rukhsana though, he was not successful in his campaign and today after 45 years the Indian population are more than 135 corers which are more than double than what we have in 1975 and which is the biggest drawback in fighting against corona pandemic, Though, our politician had identified this problem 45 years ago, they could not able to solve this problem. (No wonder Indians fail to flat corona cases curve, as we have not able to make our population curve flat even in after 45 years both are can be controlled by citizens only by taking responsibility at an individual level).
